too busy for bed!
Published by Musing Sparks Press
Book Birthday: 08 August 2025
Author: L K Wong
Illustrator: Amy Lee (as Kooky Chooky)
Process:
Character development came first in Too Busy For Bed! We went through at least half a dozen of them in various permutations over many many weeks to settle on our main character. It was a lot of fun to come up with all the different characters!! It was even MORE fun to come up with the storyboard and the color story. In the storyboard thumbnail above, you can see the color transition from bright, happy, energetic yellow to calm, quiet dark blues and purples as bedtime draws closer.
I used mixed media including Japanese hanshi paper, colored inks, and gouache before tidying everything up digitally on Clip Studio Paint. The process was just as fun and chaotic as the adventures throughout the book!
You can find a hardcover version of Too Busy for Bed! at BookBaby. A slick soft cover version is also available at BookBaby. Find out more at Musing Sparks Press!
